A university student’s mother told Belgrade weekly Radar that two Serbian security agency (BIA) agents came to her workplace a day after students decided to take over Novi Sad University’s Law School.

Ivana Stojica, mother of law student Vuk Stojic, said that two BIA agents appeared at the school she teaches at. She told Radar that the two agents identified themselves as BIA agents, one with full name and the other with a nickname, showing some kind of badges. She added that they refused to repeat their names and she called a fellow teacher to be present.

“They said they were there because of the student protests and I asked what the BIA has to do with that. They replied that ther had orders from Belgrade to try to solve the issue with parents. They also asked who organized the protests and I replied that the students did it themselves. They insisted on the students’ motives… They talked about the meeting between students and law school management and I concluded, and my son suspects the same, that someone thinks some of the professors called the BIA. We assume that they got my name from my son’s university file. They didn’t like me arguing with them, saying that they were there for an off the record friendly chat,” she said.

Stojic said she views the agents visit to her school as a threat and pressure, adding that she told them that. “I am scared for my son and his fellow students at the protest. I see no other way to protect them than to speak out,” she said.
