The name of Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic’s brother was removed from a transcript of a statement during an investigation into financial crimes at the Serbian national power company EPS, Radar weekly said in this week’s issue.

According to article author Milan Radonjic, Tim Sistem IT company owner Toni Apostolovic mentioned Igor Brnabic, a former CEO of the Aseko company in Belgrade, several times while being questioned by a prosecutor. Apostolovic was one of the people arrested with former EPS CEO Milorad Grcic earlier this month. Apostolovic allegedly mentioned Igor Brnabic in the context of ties with businessman Aleksandar Papic who is said to be close to the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).

The Radar story said that Igor Brnabic’s name was removed from the transcript following hours of consultations.

“We decided to trust a Radar source who proved right several times earlier. I think we were convinced that the public interest was to reveal that detail in the investigation which was questionable in terms of the direction it was taking,” Radonjic told N1. He said that tabloids reported that Apostolovic was questioned for 6 hours but that Radar learned the interrogation took just 2 hours and that the rest of the time was taken up in consultations.

Radonjic recalled that Igor Brnabic’s Aseko got lucrative jobs from a number of state companies, including the EPS.

The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade denied these claims on Thursday.

“It is not true that the suspect, Toni Apostolovic, mentioned the individual named in the text - Igor Brnabic - in any context, therefore, it is also not true that his name was omitted from the transcript of the suspect’s interrogation,” said the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade in a press release.
