Rakic says Kosovo Serbs will resist Pristina’s violence

The leaders of the Belgrade-backed Kosovo Serb party met with President Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade to discuss the re-registration of vehicles to replace license plates issued by Serbia with Republic of Kosovo plates which the Serbs are refusing to do. The authorities in Pristina set an October 31 deadline to complete the re-registration and have refused requests from the US and European Union to allow another 10 months for the process.

“We told the president clearly that if the Kosovo Security Forces, special units, police or anyone else starts seizing our property and those license plates and vehicles are our property, we will use all means of democratic popular resistance and it will be resistance by the people. When I say peaceful democratic non-violent popular resistance, we really do want that but we don’t know what it will turn into if someone starts seizing our property,” he said,adding that all roads will be blocked if Pristina starts violence.

Vucic’s meeting with Serb List officials comes just before a meeting of the Council for National Security.
