Reactions to Vucic at UN SC: Slovenia summons Serbian chargé d'affaires

“Such statements remind us of a different time and are unworthy of relations between the two countries,” Golob was quoted as saying by his office.

Slovenia is fulfilling its duties at the UN General Assembly and is sincerely working for peace and reconciliation between nations and a respectful attitude to these efforts of ours is the least we expect from the president of the friendly Serbia, Golob added.

The Slovenian Foreign Ministry has summoned the Serbian chargé d'affaires in Ljubljana over Vucic’s offensive statements about Slovenia after the UN Security Council session dedicated to Kosovo.

Slovenian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon described Vucic's statements as offensive and unacceptable, which is why the Ministry decided to summon the Serbian chargé d'affaires.

“We demand an explanation, an apology. This is not in the spirit of neighborly and friendly relations,” Fajon said, adding that she cannot not imagine good cooperation if someone uses such offensive words and insults an entire nation.

“We expect Serbia to act in the spirit of European values that it itself advocates,” she added.

Vucic said on Tuesday that Serbia had fallen into a trap set by the US, Switzerland and Slovenia at the UN Security Council.

“When the start of the Security Council session was delayed I asked what that was about, but then we realized that they had agreed that with the Americans, Slovenians and Swiss. You don't know who's more disgusting – the Slovenians or someone else,” said Vucic.

The Serbian Embassy in Ljubljana is run by Goran Markovic as a chargé d'affaires. Slovenia has not approved Serbia's candidate for ambassador Zoran Djordjevic, allegedly due to concerns raised by security and intelligence circles.
