Serbia’s electronic media watchdog refused a request for information from the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS).

A NUNS press release said that the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) refused a request for information of public importance saying it could not provide the information because the REM Council’s term in office expired.

The press release said the NUNS requested information about the decision to issue a broadcast permit to Russia Today TV after that station’s editor in chief Margarita Simonian said the TV station would start broadcasts in Serbian by the end of this year.

“The regulator is unable to act on your request before the new members of the Regulator Council are elected,” the REM said.
