The Serbia-Turkey Business Forum in Belgrade on Friday gathered representatives from around 300 companies from both countries to negotiate new business deals, Serbian Chamber of Commerce President Marko Cadez said at the forum’s opening.
“This is the two countries’ fourth business forum that is organized in the presence of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan,” said Cadez.
He highlighted the positive news that Serbia's exports to Turkey in August reached a record high, with even better results expected by the end of the year.
The Business Forum was organized by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey as part of President Erdogan’s two-day visit to Serbia.
The Turkish president said that trade between Turkey and Serbia is on the rise, reaching an annual figure of 2 billion US dollars over the past two years.
“We are putting in a lot of effort to stay on this trajectory, and I want to say that our companies and investments are creating new opportunities in Serbia,” he said, adding that 850 investors with Turkish capital are currently operating in Serbia, including 842 companies and 20 factories, which employ 9,600 people.
We expect stronger ties and a stronger economy that we will build together, said Erdogan, noting that economic and political cooperation is a key driver of Serbia-Turkey relations.
President Vucic pointed out the growing trend in trade between the two countries and highlighted the importance of Turkish investments in the Serbian economy.
He stressed that cooperation with Turkey is more than just economics, and that it ensures stability and peace in the entire Balkans.
“We are not ashamed to say, we have realized that, by cooperating with our friends, we can elevate our country. Prosperity is very important to us. Erdogan has promised cooperation in the defense industry, and Turkey's significant presence at the international EXPO exhibition in Belgrade in 2027. A large number of Turkish companies will assist us in organizing that event,” said Vucic.
