On Monday evening, residents of Belgrade’s Zvezdara neighborhood blocked an intersection to protest recent attacks on members of the Zvezdara local community assembly.

Confrontation erupted when a group of young men, previously spotted at similar blockades, showed up at the scene and started provoking the protesters, prompting a response from war veterans in the crowd.

The Zvezdara local community assembly members and veterans called on plainclothes police officers to take action.

“This protest is a call for solidarity among our fellow citizens. What’s happening to us could happen anywhere, to anyone. We are heading to the Zvezdara police station to support the officers we know are on the side of justice,” said Miodrag from the Zvezdara local community assembly.

Following provocations, the protesters marched to the Zvezdara police station, chanting and shouting, “Call elections!”

In five days, vandals damaged the entrances of three buildings in the Zvezdara neighborhood. What these entrances have in common is that active members of the Zvezdara local community assembly live in them.
