Retired Judge Vida Petrovic Skero told Nova daily on Thursday that the transfer of the case from prosecutors dealing with corruption to organized crime prosecutors could be a step towards finding all the facts about the reconstruction of the railway station and the collapse of a concrete awning that claimed 15 lives. She said the organized crime prosecutors have the capabilities and knowledge to recognize corruption.
Petrovic Skero voiced concern over the fact that the case was transferred 3 months after the tragedy and under public pressure.
“We have to see how long the process will take and at what speed,” she said and warned that the public could forget the case if the process takes too long.
The judge said that “there are indications of involvement by high state officials …. and the organized crime prosecution has jurisdiction over them”.
The Serbian Supreme Public Prosecution transferred the Novi Sad Railway Station case to the Organized Crime Public Prosecution on Wednesday, making it possible for prosecutors to investigate top-level elected officials.
