Radio Free Europe said that the state of railway stations in Serbia’s northern Vojvodina province is bad according to a report by the Ministry of Construction, Traffic and Infrastructure.

The report by ministry inspectors that RFE had access to said that the recently reconstructed Subotica train station was very damaged and was graded unsatisfactory. The inspection was done on July 21, just 8 months after the fast track section from Novi Sad to Subotica was supposed to be opened but was postponed because of the Novi Sad Railway Station tragedy.

RFE said that the Subotica train station is one in a line connecting the capitals of Serbia and Hungary on what is supposed to be a fast track rail line following fresh construction and upgrades.

The Novi Sad-Subotica rail line goes through 5 reconstructed railway stations which were declared unsafe last December at a moment when they were expected to be opened to the public.

The report, released under public information access regulations, said that inspectors declared the stations in Kisac, Backa Topola, Naumovicevo and Zednik unsafe and added that their reconstruction was done outside the frameworks of their construction permits and without required calculations.
