Ristic and Sever discuss media scene, public information in the region

Serbian Minister of Information and Telecommunications Dejan Ristic met with the President of the European Federation of Journalists, Maja Sever, in Zagreb, as announced by the Serbian government.

During the meeting, they analyzed the state of the international media scene, global political, social, economic, and security issues in public information, as well as challenges and potential mechanisms for addressing them.

They particularly focused on the state of public information in the region, noting the presence of the aforementioned global challenges.

The importance of improving the legislative framework, respecting national and international professional and ethical standards, and continuously strengthening capacities in public information was stressed.

Special attention was given to the safety of journalists, highlighting the obligation of all stakeholders to oppose this societal issue. The duty of public officials, journalists, and their associations to promote media pluralism and diversity of opinions was also stressed.

The responsibility of media workers to uphold professional and ethical standards, national legislation, and international norms was underlined.

Ristic and Sever agreed that dialogue is one of the most effective mechanisms for overcoming challenges and improving public information. They expressed a commitment to establishing regular communication between the Ministry and the European Federation of Journalists.
