Rode: Remove barricades before Christmas, CSM Pristina’s obligation
German Ambassador to Kosovo Jorn Rohde said that the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities (CSM) in Kosovo is an obligation that Pristina had undertaken, that the barricades in north Kosovo should be removed before Christmas and that Belgrade’s request for the return of Serbian forces to Kosovo is “absurd and unacceptable.”
The Ambassador said all efforts to continue the dialogue are aimed at fulfilling the previous agreements and their innovative solutions.
He added that the formation of the CSM does not mean “the creation of another Republika Srpska.”
Commenting the Franco-German plan for the normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo, Rhode said it is based on previously reached agreements, including the Brussels Agreement on the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities.
He voiced his opinion that the barricades in north Kosovo should be removed before Christmas and that Belgrade’s request for the return of Serbian military and police to Kosovo is “absurd and unacceptable.”
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said Ambassador Rohde “is known for his anti-Serbian views and interferes in everything, including what kind of beans people in North Mitrovica will eat.”
“His statement is dangerous, it is a threat to the Serbian people,” Vucic told Pink TV in response to Rohde’s statement that the barricades in north Kosovo should be removed before Christmas. “Germany wants complete dominance in the Balkans,” added the Serbian President.
The Ambassador told the Pristina KTV that the barricades should be removed as soon as possible by those who had mounted them, the daily Koha reported.
“Our position is clear. The barricades are illegal and those who put them up should remove them as soon as possible. KFOR is here to ensure a safe environment and free movement. So I am optimistic that it will be realized, I hope as soon as possible, because the last thing we need is a further escalation of the situation,” said Rohde.
