The Serbian state TV (RTS) board rejected opposition criticism of its coverage of the political scene in the country.

Opposition politicians sent a demand to the RTS management earlier this week, demanding proportionate air time for all parliamentary parties and claiming reporting bias in favor of the ruling coalition.

“When parliamentary parties send a letter with a request or objection to the public broadcaster, the RTS takes it highly seriously but it’s not simple to accept the demand from part of the parliamentary opposition dated September 12 because it is full of lies, contradictions and an evident lack of understanding of the media,” the RTS statement said.

It said that the demand for proportionate air time based on election results means “a complete take over of editorial policies with the editorial staff doing their jobs as dictated by parties”.

The RTS claims that the parliamentary opposition admits that its reporting during the election campaign was honest. It also claimed that the opposition had 50 percent of the air time in talk show debates.

The RTS statement said that it takes seriously alleged threats of violence against its staff by the organizers of the Serbia Against Violence protests.
