The Serbian state TV (RTS) said on Wednesday evening that President Aleksandar Vucic will discuss Serbia’s strategic position on the Ukraine war and sanctions against Russia with French President Emanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholtz in Prague on Thursday.
The RTS said that they will also discuss Kosovo and Serbia’s European integration at the European Political Community summit which will include the Serbia-France-Germany meeting. The Serbian President is also scheduled to meet with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani will also take part in the summit, a statement from her cabinet said adding that she will tell European officials that Kosovo is committed to EuroAtlantic integration as a guarantee for sustainable peace in the region.
An unnamed European official is quoted as saying that the Serbian President is expected to explain why official Belgrade has not aligned with the EU sanctions policy on Russia. Diplomatic sources in Brussels said that the possible consequences of Serbia’s failure to align with EU policies will be discussed only by the 27 EU member states.
The Serbian president’s press service said that Vucic will take part in the discussions on an initiative to establish the European Political Community as a platform of a dialogue between European Union member states and countries that want to join the Union. Vucic will also take part in a round table on energy, the economy and climate change.
