The amendments specify that anyone who assaults staff in those state-controlled systems or their families would face a penalty of 3 months to 3 years in jail. The ruling coalition MPs claim that the initiative to amend the criminal code came from the public and unions.

The amendments were officially submitted by Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) MP Milenko Jovanov. The ruling coalition MPs are demanding an urgent debate on the amendments.
