Russian Ambassador Alexander Bocan Harchenko denied a statement attributed to him by a pro-regime Serbian tabloid.

The ambassador said that he did not say that Moscow proposed the opening of a Russian military base in Serbia. “I never said what Informer reported, never,” Bocan Harchenko said. Informer is considered to be very close to President Aleksandar Vucic, allegedly unofficially passing on views from the top ranks of the regime.

“I never said that there was a proposal from Russia. I answered a question once about whether that possibility exists. I said that we did not get an offer from Serbia. We are asking for nothing, we are just want what suits our mutual interest and the development of our relations,” he told reporters at the EXPO – Russia Serbia 2022 fair.
