The Russian Duma adopted at a plenary meeting a draft address to the United Nations (UN) regarding the 25th anniversary of the NATO bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY), in which it said that this created the preconditions for new acts of force around the world “under the guise of fighting for the values of freedom and democracy,” reported RIA Novosti.
The Chambers of the Russian Federal Assembly appeal to the United Nations, international parliamentary organizations and the parliaments of foreign states to condemn the military operation by NATO countries against Yugoslavia, to counter attempts to distort the historical truth about the tragic events of 1999 in the interests of the collective West, and to take measures to bring NATO member states to international legal responsibility for the aggression against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, reads the draft document.
“The conviction of the collective West that it is impeccable and has the right to decide the fate of other peoples and states led to the rise of the neo-Nazi regime in Ukraine, which, after the coup d'état in 2014, set out to implement a policy of genocide against the Russian population and unleash an armed conflict on the territory of that country,” says the draft document.
Outgoing Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic told Pink TV on Wednesday that it is still uncertain whether or not this UN Security Council meeting will be held, Beta reported.
Dacic said he is to attend the meeting as a representative of Serbia and explained that there will be a procedural vote ahead of the meeting to decide on whether it should at all be held, reported Beta.
Russia's first deputy representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polanski has said that a UN Security Council meeting on the 25th anniversary of the NATO aggression on FR Yugoslavia would be held on March 25 at Moscow’s request.
The NATO air raids on the FRY, carried out without UN Security Council’s approval, lasted from March 24 to June 10, 1999. The NATO bombing resulted in the deaths of over 2,500 people, including 87 children, with 100 billion US dollars worth of damages caused.
