SAF infantry company to take part in UN peacekeeping operation in Lebanon

A tactical exercise titled Serbian Shield was carried out last week at the “South” Base and “Borovac” training ground near Bujanovac, as part of the preparations for the participation of a Serbian Armed Forces (SAF) infantry company in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), said the Serbian Defense Ministry.
The exercise was carried out to test this 3rd Army Brigade unit’s readiness for the implementation of tasks as part of the UN peacekeeping forces.
During several days of training activities, the tactical actions of the infantry company were monitored and evaluated in situations that can be expected in the area of operation, said the Ministry.
Control of the proper undertaking of actions and compliance with international training standards that the unit should meet was carried out by the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff assessment team the results of the evaluation have shown that this contingent is also fully qualified for engagement in the mission, the Ministry said.
The engagement of the SAF infantry company in the UN peacekeeping operation in Lebanon began in 2013, and the unit performs its tasks as part of the Spanish battalion.
An SAF force protection platoon is also deployed in Lebanon, as part of the Italian contingent, as well as staff officers and a group of specialists in charge of support, said the press release.
