SAF unit deployed with UN mission in Lebanon

A Training Command force protection platoon was deployed with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) from Constantine the Great Airport in Nis on Wednesday.
Over the next six months, this Serbian Armed Forces (SAF) unit will be carrying out the tasks of securing the United Nations base in Sector “West” as part of the Italian Contingent, said a press release issued by SAF.
Before being deployed to the mission, members of the unit underwent thorough preparations which included several months of training at training grounds and exercise areas of the Serbian Armed Forces, in order to be fully prepared for engagement in a peacekeeping operation.
They will take over duties from the previous platoon in Lebanon, which successfully completed all assigned tasks in accordance with the mission's mandate.
The Serbian Armed Forces have been participating in UNIFIL since 2010. In addition to the force protection platoon, the Serbian Armed Forces are currently engaging an infantry company in this mission as an independent unit within the Spanish Battalion, staff officers in the mission HQ and a group of specialist officers in charge of supporting our contingent, said SAF.
