Schieder MEP: Protests can no longer be ignored or crushed

Schieder wrote in an X post that the authorities’ only response to the protests was violence but that “they are now reaching a scale that can no longer be ignored or crushed”.

“Since the collapse of a train station roof in November, historic mass protests have been taking place in Serbia: Hundreds of thousands are demonstrating for the rule of law and democracy, and for an end to the corruption for which Aleksandar Vučić's regime is known,” he wrote adding that the demands of the people of Serbia must finally be heard.

He added that the Social Democrats in the European Parliament have stood in solidarity with the demonstrators since day one.
