The Independent Union of Teachers of Serbia (NSPRS) said on Tuesday that elementary schools in the city of Zrenjanin will stage a 1-hour warning strike following the dismissal of school principals last Friday.
The NSPRS said that the principals of 5 schools in the city and in outlying villages were dismissed by email on Friday, adding that more than 100 teachers have also been thrown out of their jobs.
The union said that the schools would stage a day-long strike on Friday after 3 days of 1-hour strikes, demanding that the Education Ministry reinstate the principals and teachers.
The Serbian authorities have been removing principals, managers, CEOs, police and military commanders from their posts over the past few months amid claims that the dismissals were based on a lack of loyalty to the regime.
