A senior official of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) said on Monday that President Aleksandar Vucic will leave office on his own and won’t be removed by the opposition..

SNS Presidency member Vladimir Djukanovic MP wrote in an op-ed piece for the pro-government daily Politika that he thinks Vucic will leave office very soon “maybe even before his second term expires”.

“Unlike (outgoing Montenegrin President) Milo Djukanovic, Aleksandar Vucic realizes on time what the smart thing to do is and that some new people have to take the lead with the policies that he has been favoring. Whether that is through a new political movement or some new SNS does not matter. The important thing is to bring in new energy and new blood. Perhaps go into the opposition for a time because quality activities in the opposition are the best way to school new personnel,” he said.

According to him, “new people on the political scene are inevitable”. “No one is eternal and serious politicians, especially statesmen, always bear that in mind,” Djukanovic wrote.
