Zlatan Arsic from the town of Kosovska Kamenica, suspected of war crimes in Kosovo in 1998 and 1999, has been remanded in 30-day custody by the Basic Court in Pristina, the Serbian state TV (RTS) portal reported.

The Court said a special department decided on the request of the Special Prosecutor’s Office in Kosovo and remanded Arsic in custody.

The Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija (the official name for what the Serbian authorities consider to be the country’s southern province) said that it has provided Arsic with free legal aid.

Arsic is charged with beating and mistreating innocent Albanian civilians in 1999 in his capacity as a police officer, and with participating in the deportation and forced displacement of the residents of Kamenica, in cooperation with Serbian paramilitary structures.
