The Belgrade-backed Serb List called the Kosovo Serbs not to attack KFOR troops on Tuesday evening, saying that runs counter to their interests.
“Following media reports that an explosive device was thrown at KFOR troops near the Zvecan municipality building, Serb List officials went to the site and talk to KFOR members and learned that it was probably a firecracker,” a statement said.
The Zvecan municipal administration building was the site of clashes between KFOR and local Serbs on Monday resulting in the injuries of 50 civilians and 25 soldiers. The clash started when KFOR troops tried to push back local people protesting against the new Albanian mayor who wanted to enter the building with the assistance of Kosovo police special forces.
The violent attempts by the new mayor to enter the building and ensuing protests and clashes drew condemnation from the European Union and the US and the exclusion of Pristina’s forces from the Defender Europe 23 international military exercises.
