Serbia is the only European Union (EU) candidate country in the Western Balkans that has not aligned with the EU Council’s foreign policy decision regarding restrictive measures against Iran over its military support of Russia.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said Wednesday that the EU Council adopted on December 11 a decision to expand the list of individuals and entities under restrictive measures in view of Iran's military support of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

All EU candidate countries in the Western Balkans, except for Serbia, have aligned with this EU Council decision, and they include North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

They will ensure that their national policies conform to this Council Decision and the European Union takes note of this commitment and welcomes it, said Borrell.
