Serbia fails to align with EU decisions regarding Ukraine, cyber attacks
Serbia is again the only European Union (EU) candidate country in the Western Balkans that has failed to align with two new European Union (EU) foreign policy decisions concerning restrictive measures against cyber attacks threatening the EU, and against actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.
The EU said last week that Decision (CFSP) 2025/887 of May 12 extends restrictive measures introduced over cyber attacks against the EU and its member states until May 18, 2026.
Council Decision (CFSP) 2025/904 of May 13 concerns restrictive measures in respect of actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.
With the exception of Serbia, all other EU candidate countries of the Western Balkans -North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, and Bosnia and Herzegovina – have aligned with the two new EU Council decisions. They will ensure that their national policies conform to this Council Decision and the EU takes note of this commitment and welcomes it, said the statement.
