The Beo Clean Energy (Beo cista energija) company said that the plant will produce energy from non-toxic communal waste. It said the plant has a capacity of 30.25 megawatts of electricity and 50.5 megawatts of heat and will provide 5 percent of the Serbian capital’s power needs as well as heating for 10 percent of households.
The plant also uses construction waste and rubble to treat waste waters, a company press release said.
A Serbian government press release quoted Environment Minister Irena Vujovic as saying that the plant helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
