From January 1 to December 29, 2024, there were 31,922 traffic accidents in Serbia, resulting in 501 fatalities and 18,807 injuries, the Serbian Internal Affairs Ministry told the Beta news agency.
Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of traffic accidents decreased by two percent, the number of injuries dropped by one percent, and the number of fatalities remained roughly the same, the Ministry said.
The leading factors contributing to fatal traffic accidents included speeding inappropriate for road conditions and the state of the road (44 percent), loss of control of the vehicle (14 percent), and driving under the influence of alcohol (14 percent).
