Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic ordered the Serbian Government to form a team that will lead a campaign against Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe (CoE) because a decision on this matter is expected on May 16 or 17.

“Despite the strong supporters of Pristina’s independence, I still think we have a small chance and that is why I am asking you to fight stronger than ever. I don’t want to be unpleasant in front of cameras, just please focus on that,” Vucic said at a special session of the Serbian Government, adding that this is of vital importance for Serbia.

He said there is a possibility that even some countries that have recognized Kosovo’s independence won’t feel positively about Kosovo’s membership in the CoE.

“No election campaign for you until May 17”

Vucic said Serbian Parliament speaker Ana Brnabic should continue to work on implementing the ODIHR recommendations and talks on electoral conditions, and keep offering a compromise, while those who believe they can achieve goals through ultimatums can “just keep doing that.”

“Hold the elections in a democratic atmosphere, but there is no election campaign for you until May 17, until this thing with the Council of Europe and Kosovo’s admission is over,” said Vucic.

“Kurti will continue his aggression, Europe and America are silent”

Commenting on the resumption of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue on Thursday in Brussels, the Serbian President said Belgrade is prepared but that nothing good can be expected because Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti will continue his aggression against the Serbs, especially in northern Kosovo.

“We have nothing personal against the people conducting the dialogue, but it has turned into an act of wrapping and putting a bow on Albin Kurti’s criminal acts in which everything he does must be legalized and Serbia’s approval for his actions obtained,” said Vucic.

He stressed that Serbia refuses to take part in that, even though he thinks that “sensible and rational behavior is something that will change the Western powers’ attitude toward Pristina.”

The position of our people in Kosovo will be increasingly difficult and we are focused on that, we will always stand by our people, said Vucic.

Kurti will continue his aggression, while Europe and America will continue their loud silence, and no one else has influence on the Pristina authorities or is in a situation to help us, said the Serbian President.

“Important talks with Macron”

Vucic said he will have important talks with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on April 8 in Paris.

“This will be a strategic talk with Macron, and one of the most important talks so far, I have had 19 talks with him to date,” Vucic told the Serbian Government meeting.

He added that Finance Minister Sinisa Mali will accompany him to Paris, that the Serbian arms industry will be one of the important topics of the meeting with Macron, as well as nuclear energy without which, as he said, Serbia will not be able to meets its electricity needs in the future.

Flying taxis and flying cars

“We also continue to accelerate cooperation in the procurement of Airbuses and helicopters. We expect the next Government to have the courage to declare itself on Serbia’s future. The Chinese in the world and the French in Europe are the only ones capable (of producing) flying taxis and flying cars, and this will be one of the topics,” stressed Serbian President Vucic.

The extraordinary meeting of the Serbian Government was attended by former Prime Minister and incumbent Parliament speaker Ana Brnabic, ministers, members of the security sector, military, police and directors of public companies.

The meeting was adjourned after Vucic’s speech.
