Serbian authorities identified just 57 trafficking victims in 2020

Serbia’s Labor and Social Issues Minister Darija Kisic Tepavcevic said on Wednesday that the authorities identified 57 victims of trafficking in 2020, almost half of them minors.

The minister told the presentation of a report on support from victims of trafficking in Serbia that most of the victims were sexually exploited women. “This is a crime that destroys lives and families, leaving behind consequences that can probably never be cured,” she said adding that technology is being used with increasing frequency to prey on women, children, migrants and the poor.

According to the minister, the fight against the trafficking of people is among the priorities of the Serbian authorities. She said that a strong system had been put in place to fight trafficking and provide support to victims.
