Dragan Labovic, a former player for the Serbian national basketball team, has died at the age of 39.

“With great sorrow, the Basketball Federation of Serbia received the news that our former national team player Dragan Labovic has left us too soon. The Basketball Federation of Serbia extends its deepest condolences to his family,” read the statement published on the Federation’s website.
Dragan Labovic was born in Prokuplje on April 20, 1987. He began his junior career at Zdravlje and moved early on, as a major talent, to FMP, where he played from 2003 to 2010.
He later played for Greek team Aris, German teams Skyliners and Frankfurt, Russian clubs Enisey, Krasnye Krylya, and Nizhny Novgorod, Poland’s Koszalin, Turkey’s Aliağa, as well as Al Riyadi, Asesoft Ploiești, Istanbul, Karpoš Sokoli, and Nokia.

In the 2008/09 season, he was the top scorer of the Adriatic League, averaging 18 points per game.
He played for Serbia’s senior national team at the 2007 European Championship, and won three European championship titles with youth national teams.
