Serbian citizens came to a standstill at 11:52 am on Friday across the country, observing fifteen minutes of silence to honor the fifteen victims of the November 1 Novi Sad train station tragedy.
The tragedy occurred when a concrete canopy roof at the railway station in the northern city of Novi Sad collapsed on Friday, November 1, at 11:52 am, claiming the lives of 15 people and severely injuring two others.
Students, who have been blockading multiple Belgrade university faculties in protest and demanding accountability for the deaths and injuries, also organized blockades of several major roads in the city.
Several incidents were reported during Friday’s action.
The non-partisan ProGlas initiative launched a weekly action called Stop, Serbia on November 22, which takes place every Friday at 11:52 AM, marking the moment when the train station canopy in Novi Sad collapsed. Citizens are encouraged to stand still for 15 minutes to honor the victims of the Novi Sad tragedy.
The initiative said this gesture also serves to protest the unjustified detention of people who exercised their right to demonstrate against the government, and to express support for establishing effective rule of law in Serbia.
