Serbian Defense Minister Milos Vucevic said on Wednesday that the atmosphere in northern Kosovo is so tense that things could easily take a wrong turn.

“The atmosphere is tense and all it would take is a single match for everything to go in an undesirable direction,” he told the pro-government TV Prva a day after heavily armed Kosovo police officers escorted election commission members into the municipal administration building in the majority Serb town of Zubin Potok.

According to Vucevic, “this was a clear message to the Serbs that they are undesirable there”. He denied reports of explosions in Zubin Potok.

Vucevic said that discussions on bringing back conscription should not be viewed as Serbia being close to a conflict, adding that the issue was raised because there aren’t enough professional military personnel and the need to train personnel for emergency situations. “This is not a priority for the Defense Ministry,” the minister said.

The Defense Minister said that “very organized terror” is being waged against the Serbs in northern Kosovo by Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s administration in order to “upset, scare and expel the Serbs”.
