Serbia’s Environment Protection Minister Irena Vujovic went to the Potpec reservoir and dam on the Lim river on Tuesday to check on the operation to clear floating waste which she discussed a day earlier with officials from BosniaHerzegovina and Montenegro.

Vujovic called an online meeting with officials in charge of protecting the environment in Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday to discuss the cleanup of waste floating on the Drina and Lim rivers.

“The estimate is that 7,500 cubic meters of floating waste have to be removed and transported to the regional waste management center outside Uzice. This is a big job,” she said. The minister said that local authorities have to invest effort to resolve the problem of illegal waste dumps and landfills. “The ministry will help resolve the waste dump problem and set up barriers on rivers… It’s important for municipalities to have projects ready,” Vujovic said.
