Serbian epidemiologist Predrag Kon said on Friday that the authorities are seriously considering stricter anti-pandemic measures because the public health situation has been deteriorating steadily.

He told a news conference that the risk of infection is higher than it was 10 days ago and is constantly rising.

“As an epidemiologist I have to say that we have been giving serious consideration to stricter measures but we don’t have clear and sufficient data to be able to insist on that. We can expect consequences following the coming long weekend (for statehood day). I don’t expect higher numbers over those four days because fewer people get tested on weekends and holidays and we have to wait to see the consequences,” Dr Kon said.

“We had no grounds to demand stricter measures but we did have reason to say that no easing of the current measures should be discussed and insist on strict control over the holidays and we were promised that,” Kon said.
