Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali told a presentation of the 2021-23 Economic Reform Program (ERP) that Serbia showed the European Union that it knew how to deal with the coronavirus pandemic and voiced hope that this brings the country closer to the Union.

Speaking after handing the ERP to EU Ambassador Sem Fabrizi, Mali said that unemployment is lower than before the pandemic, inflation and the Dinar exchange rate against the Euro are stable. This is the eighth year that the government has worked with the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) to draft the document which considered crucial to the economic dialogue between the EU and candidate countries. The ERP will be reviewed by the EU Economic and Financial Affairs Council in mid-2021.

The minister said the ERP is the most important strategic government document covering the fight against the gray economy, employment, economic integration, social security.

Fabrizi said that EU aid to Serbia will be based on the Program and added that the important thing is to keep reforms in Serbia in line with reforms in the EU. Last year was hard for everyone but Serbia achieved better results than many EU member states in terms of GDP, he said.
