Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said on Wednesday that the economy is strong, stable and growing.

“According to a spot check by the Republic Statistics Office (RZS), inflation in October dropped to 8.5 percent. That is extremely important and good news for all the citizens of Serbia,” a ministry press release quoted him as saying during a spot check of shop prices in Belgrade.

Mali said that the labor market is also strong and stable. “We are slowly beating the greatest problem, inflation,” he said adding that inflation was not expected to drop to single digits before December. “That means that all the measures introduced by the government to fight inflation have shown results,” he added.

The Finance Minister said that the government helped curb inflation by controlling fuel and some food prices.
