Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic voiced hope on Wednesday that some progress would be made in Thursday’s high-level round of the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue but added that the West is not prepared to exert more pressure on Pristina.
“I would like to see some progress in the new round of the dialogue but our hopes are not too high because of (Kosovo Prime Minister Albin) Kurti and the lack of readiness in the West to bring more pressure to bear to get him to head towards a normalization of relations,” he told B92 TV a day before Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kurti are due to meet with European Union officials in Brussels.
He said that the West does not understand that Kurti “wants to achieve his wishes through violence”. “The negotiations should be status neutral but they aren’t and we get criticism for going to the talks. Serbia can’t be declared guilty because that will bring suffering primarily to the people living in Kosovo,” he said.a
