Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on Thursday that Belgrade and Washington share views on a number of issues but that Serbia wants strategically good relations with the US.

Speaking after signing a memorandum of understanding between the Foreign Ministry and State Department, Dacic said that Belgrade would welcome a visit by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, confirming Washingtons commitment to developing partnership relations. The memorandum was signed by Dacic and US Ambassador Christopher Hill.

The Foreign Minister said the memorandum is another opportunity to promote bilateral relations. He said liaison officers would be sent to the State Department from Belgrade and expressed the hope that they will help the State Department understand Serbia better. “We are planning for the arrangement to start in September or October and last a year,” he said.

This is an opportunity for diplomats to get to know each other, Ambassador Hill said adding that Serbia  has a tradition of good diplomats.
