The Serbian Government decided to provide each individual arrested in Kosovo, in what it described as “trumped-up criminal proceedings,” with a one-time financial aid payment of 300,000 dinars (1 euro – 117 dinars).

The Government issued a press release saying it adopted at its session on Friday a Conclusion “adopting a measure for the payment of one-off financial assistance to individuals currently held in prisons and judicial detention centers of the Provisional Institutions of Self-Government in Pristina in Kosovo and Metohija against whom trumped-up criminal proceedings are being conducted for crimes allegedly committed during the 1998-1999 armed conflicts against Albanians in the territory of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, as well as other trumped-up criminal proceedings initiated for the purpose of political persecution.” (Kosovo and Metohija is the official name for what the Serbian authorities consider to be the country’s southern province)

It said that, through this measure, one-off financial assistance in the amount of 300,000 dinars will be provided for each individual detained under such circumstances in prison or a judicial detention unit in Kosovo and Metohija, based on records kept by the Office for Kosovo and Metohija.

The payment of this one-off assistance will be carried out as soon as possible, it added.

Serbia and Russia to mark the 80th anniversary of victory in World War II

The government also adopted a Decision on the establishment of a Working Group for Marking the 80th Anniversary of Victory in World War II.

The working group is tasked with organizing the joint commemoration of this important date by Serbia and the Russian Federation.

Victory Day, which marks the defeat of fascism, is celebrated on May 9 in remembrance of the day in 1945 when Nazi Germany officially surrendered.
