Serbian Health Ministry official warns of pending problems with omicron

Ministry State Secretary Mirsad Djerlek said that the public should not relax because the fight against the omicron variant can be expected to be very hard to the end of March. The doctor told the pro-government TV Pink that no one should rely on predictions made to date or even assessments by the World Health Organization about when the pandemic could end.

According to Djerlek, the omicron variant causes lighter symptoms but it is easily transmitted causing a vicious circle among young people who haven’t been vaccinated who get sick more than once and infect their families. He said that most hospitalized patients and deaths were among people over the age of 60.
