Serbian judges, prosecutors call for top-level meeting

The Defend the Profession (Odbranimo Struku in Serbian) group called for the meeting to discuss the points on the judiciary made in the protesting students’ demands by the end of the month.

The open letter said the Supreme Court, Supreme Public Prosecution, High Judiciary Council and High Council of Prosecutors has to meet to discuss the issue in a transparent manner with judges and prosecutors. The state of the judiciary would be the only issue discussed with focus on political influence on prosecutors and courts to force them to take inappropriate decisions in mid-May.

The letter recalled that several hundred judges and prosecutors stood up in defense of their professions this year and called others to join them in defense of the constitution and laws.
