The Serbian Bar Association (AKS) Managing Board announced a three-day suspension of work starting January 24, in protest against the erosion of the rule of law and the threat to the independence and autonomy of the Serbian legal profession.

During this period, lawyers will refrain from attending courts, public prosecutors’ offices, police stations, administrative bodies, notary public offices, and public enforcement agent offices for any reason. The Association emphasized that lawyers will only submit documents related to the expiration of deadlines.

Lawyers will limit their work to “the minimum necessary to protect the basic rights and interests of clients.” This action is aimed at highlighting the urgent need for the government to respect the constitutional principle of separation of powers and to act within their authority.

The AKS urges all government bodies to uphold the Constitution and laws of Serbia in the interest of all citizens.

The decision has been posted on the AKS website and forwarded to all relevant state institutions and media.
