Lawyers across Serbia suspended their services on Wednesday, protesting multiple issues including the controversial passage of Criminal Code amendments and what they view as selective prosecution of those responsible for the Novi Sad tragedy and of the participants of Novi Sad protests.
Lawyers are also protesting the systematic and long-term interference of the executive branch in the judiciary, as well as violations of the principle of separation of powers in a democratic society.
The decision to strike was reached unanimously by the Serbian Bar Association's Management Board on December 5, with the action set for December 11.
Lawyers will not represent clients in courts, before state bodies, public notaries, or enforcement officers. The only exceptions will be cases involving detention decisions and those involving juvenile offenders.
