Serbia’s electronic media watchdog REM has been left without its decision-making body as of Tuesday. Pročitaj više

The REM Council’s term in office expires in three days but the body issued a statement saying it was no longer in office, adding that it gave the pro-regime Informer TV a broadcasting permit for Belgrade “as a gift”.

The Cenzolovka fact-checking site said that the decision to issue the permit is illegal because no interviews with applicants were organized.

The REM Council said that the body insisted on respect for the law all through its term in office “abiding by the principles of free speech and opposing all censorship”. It added that the REM Council was “under constant pressure from the people who thought it should be a political arbiter”.
