Serbian military chiefs see Croatia, Albania, Kosovo alliance as serious challenge

It said that the meeting of the General Staff Chief’s Collegium focused on what it called “the intensified activities of Albania, Croatia and the temporary self-governing institutions in Pristina in strengthening their alliance which is a harsh violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Kumanovo Military-Technical Agreement”.

“It concluded that the meeting of the chiefs of staff of two NATO member states with representatives of the temporary institutions in our southern province represent a serious security challenge which is clearly directed against the Republic of Serbia and imposes the need for the Army of Serbia to continue quickly strengthening its capabilities to defend the country and remain a strong deterence factor,” the press release said, adding that concrete measures have been defined to monitor the security situation and maintain the readiness of the Serbian military to react and protect the population and Serbia’s national interest.

It said that the Serbian military remains committed to keeping the peace and stability of the region and developing its capabilities to deter any potential military danger. “In line with the orders of the Supreme Commander and President and the analysis of the situation, operational and functional capabilities, the Army of Serbia has intensified activities which will significantly upgrade its defensive powers in the near future and secure capabilities greater than the overall capabilities of that military alliance,” the press release said.
