The Center for Local Self-Government (CLS) expressed concern on Thursday over the Telekom Serbia – Telenor business agreement which it feels is in violation of the laws on protecting competition and on public property and could lead to a drop in the company's value.
“Telekom’s business interest is unclear in putting its optic infrastructure at the disposal of another telecommunications operator and consciously entering into a process which will most probably lead to a drop in the value of the company which is majority-owned by the state and its market share,” CLS President Nikola Jovanovic said in a press release.
He recalled that available information shows that Telekom will give Telenor that part of its infrastructure which jeopardizes the position of other market players which will inevitably lead to court proceedings and huge penalties. Jovanovic said that this shows that the motives behind that cooperation are not commercial but political and that Telekom is being illegally used to fight a third operator who produces professional content and is not controlled by the authorities.
“We don’t know if we should be more concerned about the destruction of the third, independent operator or the drop in value of Telekom,” Jovanovic said.
