The Christmas liturgy began in the Church of Saint Sava in Belgrade, served by Bishop Stefan with the concelebration of Belgrade priests, at 9 a.m..

After the liturgy, a traditional breaking of garlic will be organized in front of the Temple around 11 a.m., after a two-year break due to the pandemic. The bread will have more than 7,000 parts, and 33 gold coins are hidden inside. It weighs more than 250 kilograms, with a diameter of four meters.

In his Christmas message, Patriarch Porfirije called on Serbs, wherever they may live, to respect the gospel and spread peace and love to every person in the world.

„Let’s be joyous on this great and wonderful holiday of the birth of our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ, who achieved the salvation of the world and man! Let’s join the angels in singing: ‘Glory to God and peace on earth, goodwill among people!'“ said the patriarch.
