The Serbian government’s crisis response team warned on Tuesday that the pandemic could easily spin out of control and called the public to get vaccinated.

Speaking after the response team’s meeting, Minister Dr Darija Kisic Tepavcevic said that vaccination is the only way to protect the population. “Young people have to realize that this is social responsibility and that they have to show that they are responsible. The situation is stable but can spin out of control,” she said, adding that the situation across the world is deteriorating. She said that virtually none of the people hospitalized with COVID-19 had been inoculated.

“A total of 2,772,927 people have received one dose and 2,642,507 people have received both doses of vaccine. That is 49 percent of the adult population but that is not enough,” she said and added that less than five percent of the population aged 18 to 30 have been vaccinated.
