The Serbian Parliament adopted amendments to the law on the military which gives command of the Army of Serbia (VS) to the chief of general staff in line with decisions by the president.
The law now states that “the Chief of General Staff commands the VS in line with the law, decisions by the president and command acts”. Under the constitution, the president commands the military.
According to the elaboration, the amendments introduce ways to improve the position of professional soldiers.
The amended law says that long-term contracts will no longer depend on the age of military personnel if that personnel is needed without an invitation for applications.
Parliament also adopted a law on military education and a law on health care and insurance for military personnel and dependents.
