Serbian Parliament Speaker claims election conditions were equal for all

Serbian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Orlic told and ODIHR delegation that everything agreed in talks between the authorities and opposition was implemented before the April 3 elections.

The OSCE and European Union facilitated inter-party talks following the 2020 opposition election boycott. The opposition has claimed that the agreements on improving election conditions were not implemented fully.

“Absolutely everything that was agreed in the inter-party dialogue has been implemented and everyone stood in the elections under conditions which were the best since the introduction of multi-partyism in our country,” a press release quoted Orlic as saying. The high-ranking ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) official added that cooperation with the OSCE’s ODIHR was active and successful, especially in preparing amendments to the Serbian constitution.

He said that the fact that every member of the Republic Election Commission, including opposition officials, unanimously adopted the final results of the April 3 elections showed what they think about the conditions at the elections. “That never happened before,” he said.

The Serbian opposition has complained of unequal conditions during the election campaign.
